Taiwan has metro systems in both Taipei and Kaohsiung city where Metro Kaohsiung is estimated to begin service at end of 2007. Below is information on Metro Taipei.

Metro Information and Tickets

Metro Taipei operates on 8 different routes, Danshui Line, Chungho Line, Xindian Line, Xiaonanmen Line, Banchiao Line, Tucheng Line and Muzha Line, areas cover both Taipei city and county. Each Line is indicated by different color on all the route maps and stations for easy identification, such as red for Danshui Line and green for Xindian Line. Explanation

Fare (NT$)

Single-journey Ticket

IC token valid only on the day of issue.

Fare starts at $20 with a $5 increase for every 5-6 stations.

One Day Pass

Valid for unlimited rides on a single day and valid for one passenger each time. This pass cannot be value added, the NT$50 deposit can be claimed by returning the card within 3 days from first use, and damage to the card forfeits the deposit.

$200 ($50 as deposit)

Easy Card

Value can be added repeatedly to the card with 20% discount on each trip and an additional $7 discount for every transit. Full refund for a return of over 5 uses, $20 fee is charged for less than 5 uses. Refund is denied for any damage to the card. Easy card is recommended for more than 2 days stay in Taipei city.
