Taxi

 

Taiwan's taxis are painted yellow with light boxes on the top of the car and taxi company name and drivers name listed on the side. You can wave for a taxi from anywhere and for busy stations or tourist spots, there are also rotating taxies. Taxi fares are different for every city, cities which adapts taxi meters are Taipei, Hshinchu, Taichung, Tainan and Kaohsiung. Taipei's standard charge starts at $70 and after 1.5km for every 300m the meter adds an additional $5 charge, for a speed below 5km/hr, the meter counts at every 2 minute interval. Kaohsiung's standard charge starts at $85 and after 1.5km for every 250m the meter adds an additional $5, and counts at every 3 minute interval for stop times.

Taxi charges in other cities are bid by taxi drivers, passengers should bargain with the driver on a reasonable fare before getting on. For some remote tourist spots, passengers can consider half day or full day taxi rental and share the fares. Note that taxi drivers have assaulted female passengers traveling alone, consider riding on taxies with radio service networks for your own safety.
